¿Qué es y cuáles son sus características?
Textpattern es un sistema de gestión de contenidos o CMS de código abierto, que ofrece un uso flexible para todo tipo de webs, así como para diseñadores, editores y autores de blogs.
La interfaz de administración de esta herramienta es muy sencilla y puede ser utilizada por un número ilimitado de usuarios administradores, cuyos privilegios están personalizados. Además da la posibilidad de construir cualquier tipo de sitio web con secciones, categorías y diseños diferentes de página.
Con una interfaz basada en navegador en más de 40 idiomas, soporte excelente y completa gama de funciones, no es de extrañar que los editores, diseñadores y desarrolladores de todo el mundo elige Textpattern.
Textpattern ofrece una serie de características y comodidades a los usuarios, administradores y desarrolladores de sitios.
Principales características de Textpattern
-Múltiples editores: con este CMS se pueden utilizar un número ilimitado de editores y a cada uno de ellos el administrador le da una serie de privilegios. De estos privilegios hay cinco niveles, que son: propietario, editor jefe, editor de copia, escritor y diseñador.
-Textile: el contenido marcado con Textile se convierte de forma automática en XHTML, que es el código con el que el navegador renderiza el contenido. También al escribir un artículo puedes cambiar la forma de verlo, eligiendo entre texto plano, XHTML o vista preliminar.
-Gestión de hojas de estilos en cascada (CSS): Textpattern ofrece dos formas de mantener las hojas de estilo en nuestras páginas: el modo manual, puedes crear cualquier estilo que quieras en la interfaz, lo que permite una rápida edición sin necesidad de recurrir a un gestor FTP, o el modo automático, se trata de un nivel algo más sofisticado, el cual utiliza una interfaz de edición que hace que los parámetros de tus CSS sean más legibles y lógicos.
-Gestión de enlaces: no hay límites para los enlaces y sus categorías, estos podrán ser mostrados en cualquier lugar de la web que desees. Además podrás añadir nuevos enlaces de una forma sencilla.
Sin embargo Textpattern como todos los CMS presenta ventajas e inconvenientes que hay que considerar a la hora de escoger un CMS para elaborar los sitios web deseados, aquí se exponen algunas de ellas:

Ventajas:
- Desde el momento que entras a la administración ya puedes empezar a escribir tu artículo, sin necesidad de un dashboard.
- Sistema muy sencillo de usar, que permite hacer casi todo, incluso cosas que en WordPress necesitarías contar con plugins.
- Después de la instalación no tendrás que volver a utilizar un cliente FTP.
- Documentación mucho más completa que el codex de WordPress.
Inconvenientes:
- Los recursos no se encuentran tan fácil y actualizados como los de WordPress.
- La versión en español no muestra todas las secciones en la sidebar.
- No es tan poderoso como WordPress, principalmente en el manejo de imágenes.
